Katikati is very fortunate to have access to wonderful waterways for recreational use. Many rivers and streams run from the Kaimai Ranges to the sea. There are several favourite swimming holes, two close to town are the Henry Road and McMillan Road spots. There are also a number of walks into the Kaimai Ranges that will take you along side or up a river to beautiful waterfalls and swimming holes.
The Katikati foreshore has the tidal Tauranga Harbour lapping at its toes. Tauranga Harbour is a large tidal estuary covering an area of 218 square kilometres and has two exit points so at low tide you can walk across to Matakana Island. However this is not recommended unless you have an experienced guide. Fishing and kayaking in the harbour are two very popular passtimes.
Just 10 minutes drive away is Waihi Beach which is a well known surf beach that stretches 10km in length.
Under the Katikati soils is a thermal wonderland, not as volitile as our neighbours Rotorua but still enough to have a soak in our natural pools. There are several local pools that you can enjoy and information on these are at the Katikati Visitor Information Centre.
