athenree homestead

Athenree Homestead was built by Irish settler/pioneers Hugh and Adela Stewart in 1879 and was a working farmhouse for 30 years up to their departure in 1906.

It played an important role in the history of Athenree and Katikati - the whole area being part of a planned Irish settlement.

The Homestead is located on a Western Bay of Plenty District Council Reserve at 360 Athenree Road, Athenree and is maintained by the Athenree Homestead Charitable Trust.

The house is open to the public throughout the year at the following times:

January to end April - every Sunday, 11am to 3pm

May to end December - first Sunday of the month, 11am to 3pm.

A donation of $5 per person helps us to maintain the property.
