Katikati Archives![]() Main St 1940's Katikati is historically a very significant place as it was the first planned Irish settlement in New Zealand. There is international interest in the story of George Vesey Stewart and the early Katikati settlers and it is very important that people have access to reliable and detailed information about their history. It is important that both the Pakeha and Maori communities of the area have a sense of their heritage and history. Katikati Library Archives has extensive holdings of people, places, businesses, happenings and other information embracing the area from Athenree to Apata that can be accessed through a detailed card index. The collection is housed at the Western Bay of Plenty District Council’s Katikati Office. Contact can be made on (07) 549 1658 or ktktarchives@gmail.com
