In 1991, when Katikati was facing tough times, a group of volunteers formed Katikati Open-Air Art Incorporated. They aimed to cheer up the locals and attract visitors by painting Katikati’s history on the walls of the town.
Today there are around 45 works of art including sculptures, carvings and weaving. Our biennial festival features the New Zealand Mural Contest - the next one is 11-16 October 2011
Visitors can take a guided tour of the murals. We have new sculptres - The Pioneers by Mark Hill found in Talisman Dr and Bird Walk sculptures along the banks of the Uretara Stream.
